What about people who never heard?
It’s one of the first questions people ask, and a good one. If Jesus is the way, what about everyone who lived and died without hearing of him?
Christians have answered this in more than one way over the centuries, and anyone who claims to know every detail is saying more than the Bible does. But Scripture isn’t silent. It starts with who God is.
Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?Genesis 18:25
Abraham asked that while pleading for a city. The answer the whole Bible gives is yes. God is not careless with people, and he does not judge anyone by light they never had.
No one is left with nothing
Paul writes that the world itself speaks about its maker, so that his power is seen in the things he has made. He says people without the law still carry a conscience that accuses or excuses them. And speaking to a crowd in Athens, he said that God placed every nation where it is for a reason.
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us.Acts 17:27
The picture is of a God who is near to every people on earth, and who is “not willing that any should perish.” How he deals with each person who never heard is something the Bible leaves with him, and his character is the reason that is safe.
